Friday Pussy Blog

It's been a long week -- actually it's flown, but it's been wild. Time to wind down and relax with my pussies.

I caught Sissy by surprise tonight, standing in front of her favorite floor mat, a gift from her grand ma-ma.

Tater Tot likes to put on his daddy's sandals. He's such a sweet boy. He LOVES his daddy!

And daddy LOVES his Tot!

#8 In the Long List of Reasons Why I Don't Like to Talk to My Mother

Because she invariably says someting stupid?

Like when discussing the 2008 election, she said she can't help but call "him" Osama Bin Laden. Of course she was referring to that "half black" guy she "doesn't trust."

Hmmm, now that I think about it, I don't trust him either. But for ENTIRELY different reasons.

This list of reasons is not going to appear in any kind of chronological order. Just don't try and keep track.

Crossposted somewhere, I'm sure.

There's a Party Comin' to Town

I've always been fond of Lady Bird Johnson for her opinions about many environmental things, such as what I heard on NPR today, regarding her disdain for billboards along our nation's highway system. They are truly an eyesore and distract from what should be an unpolluted view of America.

The cause of death was not immediately available.

Being 94 might have been a factor, but whatever. I know all about cause and effect but I won't go into a philosophical diatribe out of respect for our former first lady.

Her wildflowers will continue to bloom.

I never knew her real name was Claudia.

2007 - Oh What a Year

Just what I need: more job insecurity.

We found out today our agency is no longer the lead agency on our largest account and we now answer to another agency under our corporate umbrella rather than directly to our client. We don't know what this means yet, and it may ultimately mean very little, but it's troubling nonetheless.

I can hardly believe the year is more than half over already. Our financial woes hit home back in January and that unpleasant realization seems like a distant memory. I'm just hoping this current job continues for at least another year.

Meanwhile, I finally spoke to the law office yesterday and the paralegal was supposed to call me back to let me know what I needed to bring for the appointment on Wednesday. He didn't call back yesterday or today and I was too busy to track him down today. I was hoping to have an email when I got home but I don't. So I'm not even sure I still have an appointment.

I never knew it was so hard just trying to get an appointment with a lawyer! The saga continues.

Get those fucking mosquitoes off me!

Get those moths off me!! Just let come back in the house!!

Little Cabrito, Little Cabrito

Are you made pure?

Or do you contain a hair, or perhaps a drop of that male urine.

Or... a drop of blood.

Kind of makes you wonder about the standards in Mexico, let alone China.

Why Kona Doesn't Visit Wineries

I think some folks watched sideways too many times.
There also are reports of tastings gone wild involving intoxicated visitors who have tossed back full glasses of wine without regard to nose or body until they grabbed the brass spittoon for baser purposes.

The latest additions to local lore include a story about members of an inebriated group at the Palmer Vineyards here who hopped off a hayride and began gallivanting naked through the vines.

Seriously, this is about as tasteless as going to a library to look at porn and have a sex orgy. Although the idea of running naked through the vineyards is pretty natural and respectful.

Cats Have Got A Number Up On Us Folks

You don't seem to mind when you walk -- buy -- and give them a tug on the neck while they are sleeping.

When they get older, they shall return the favor. And occasionally, with a vengeance.

Does NG Mean "Not Great?"

Beware of konagod doing restaurant reviews. txrad rarely has an idea for eating out but today he wanted to try the NG House which has several vegetarian dishes. Being as I was slightly hungover from last night's festivities I was thankful to have someone else make the decision today.

NG House was voted Best Chinese Food 2006 by CitySearch with a 9.9 rating. Hmmm, gotta try it then.

The first thing I noticed was a large dining space with very few tables. Maybe most of their business is take-out. I can understand why if they are always playing Majic 95.5 in the restaurant. Gag me right there.

One of my big pet peeves is when the music in a joint is in stark contrast to the culture of the cuisine. When I eat Indian, I want to hear sitars and tablas. When I eat Mexican, I want ranchera or mariachi. I sure as hell don't want to hear Sting singing "Every Breath You Take" when I have Chinese.

Who listens to that shit anyway? I couldn't stop visualizing boring women in their 40s, with bad hairdos, working a 9-5 job in a cubicle filled with family pictures and the dreaded clock radio set at low volume on this same station. Maybe they get up from their desks promptly at 12:00 noon every day, get in their Camry with the radio set at 95.5 and go out to some restaurant which plays the same station.

I ordered the egg drop soup and a coconut curry tofu dish. The egg drop soup wasn't bad, but it wasn't subtle either. I'm not the biggest egg head in the world, and until recently, I would only eat eggs if they were an ingredient in a baked dish, not the focus of the dish itself. I have recently taken a liking to breakfast tacos with egg, bean, & cheese, or egg, potato & cheese, and in both instances, covered in pico de gallo. Egg drop soup is.... just a little too eggy for me.

The coconut curry tofu was tasty but nothing that I felt would warrant anything close to a 9.9 rating. txrad ordered an NG tofu house special with a lychee smoothie. He was just curious about the taste of lychee. I think he still is because an overabundance of sugar and rose water ruled that drink! Honestly, a little rose water goes a LONG way. This was like a lifetime of rose water all condensed into one pearly white beverage. Yeeeeeccchhhh.

I have decided the people who voted this restaurant the Best of anything are probably people who are fond of the meat-based dishes, not the vegetarian dishes.

I am not the biggest fan of Chinese food in general but there are some stellar establishments out there serving excellent vegetarian cuisine. Veggie Heaven right here in Austin is one of my favorites. 10,000 Buddhas is another restaurant in San Francisco which I shall never forget. I can't seem to locate it and if I recall, it actually had another name as well, and I called it 10,000 Buddhas because it was easier to remember.

Those two restaurants are cited because I didn't want any of you to think I just dislike Chinese food in general and therefore a bad review was inevitable. And this isn't even a bad review, it's just not a 9.9 rating.

I give it a 5.3 rating. Had they been playing anything but that nauseating lowest common denominator pop music station on the radio, I probably would have given them a 6.0.

The good news is the portions are large and for $5.95 it's a good deal. We brought half of our food home. The lychee smoothie stayed behind.

Nothing to see here, move along, move along..

Actually this is just a quick update to explain the light blogging which is likely to continue for an unknown amount of time.

My real paying job is sucking out a lot of my energy. And duties related to clean-up of my old company such as getting everything entered in QuickBooks, reconciling a few accounts, etc., is proving to be WAY more than I can do in the evenings, and more than I want to do on the weekends.

Creditors are still hounding me. I've contacted a lawyer but haven't received a call back yet. I'll ring him again in the morning and see if we can't get the ball rolling on some things before another weekend hits.

I'm ready to put that chapter of my life behind me as quickly as possible. Once that is done, perhaps I can relax a little and regain my momentum with this blog. Nothing is more frustrating than finding something I want to blog about and just don't have the time.

Of course, having about $150,000 fall in my lap right now would solve most of my problems.

Let's turn this into a Question of the Day. Forget anything you ever heard or read about money not bringing happiness. How much money would it take to make you happy?

For me, one million would do the trick. And that's not much in a world where CEOs haul in far more than that annually. The first thing I'd do is pay off my mortgage which would leave roughly $870,000. I could pop that into a relatively safe stock paying a decent dividend and perhaps clear $50,000 per year. With no mortgage, I could easily live well on that amount. Of course I'd insist on txrad keeping his day job!

Happy 4th and a Pink Snail

Just snapped this pretty little critter in the driveway.

Everyone have a fun and safe 4th of July!

I Got Dem Red Spider Blues

We have the most interesting insects anthropods here in central Texas.

I might have to start a Tuesday Insect Anthropod Blog.

Whatever you do, don't call the Orkin man. I hate those fuckers. Just deal with it.

A Mid-Week Holiday

Question of the Day:

Do you like having a holiday fall on a Wednesday as opposed to a Friday or a Monday?

It doesn't much matter to me. A number of people at work thought it sucked because they don't get a long weekend. I look at it this way: it's like having 2 two-day work weeks separated by a short weekend. So, I'm fine with it. I plan to party tonight just like it's Friday. And when this short weekend is over and I go back to work, it'll already be Friday eve! Can't get much better than that!

Of course I do have some work to do tomorrow, quite a bit in fact, but at least I'm at home and can randomly do other things.

And now, a moment to remember Beverly Sills who died yesterday at the age of 78. Here she is at the age of 7.

Monday Garden Blog

A fairly decent tomato harvest thus far.

That bad boy on the left is going to be a part of dinner tonight which otherwise shall consist of leftover soul food from last night. That means NO cooking tonight. Just reheating! Yeahh!

(Disregard the bag of limes. We didn't grown those.)

Pussy Galore

Thanks to Rebecca for sending in another cat/dog blogging entry this week since I'm too tired after an exhausting week to do my own pussies.

OK. I'll do one or two. There was also an interesting article in the New York Times today about the evolution of pussy.

Some 10,000 years ago, somewhere in the Near East, an audacious wildcat crept into one of the crude villages of early human settlers, the first to domesticate wheat and barley. There she felt safe from her many predators in the region, such as hyenas and larger cats.

Some TWO years ago, somewhere in central Texas, an audacious wildcat crept into my home as well. And it ain't the first time it's happened. He has been named Tater Tot. My God, as much attention as he gets on this blog, you'd think he was my favorite or something.

You Can't Just Draw It

You've got to live it, breathe it, and seize it.

I'm Just Not Giving It Away

For anyone's commercial value.

Hmm, I think there's supposed to be some meat in between those buns. Oh shit, I think I left all that over at Shakes.

So, who the fuck is playing all this jazz?

Let me go look.

OH FUCK! It was Harry Connick, Jr.

Thank God I had Dizzy Gillespie and Roy Eldridge standing by.

Txrad is discussing Santaria with me right now.

Something about cutting off a chicken's head. But I want chickens, despite my recent re-predilection for eggs.

Excuse me, while I play music without trumpets.

When the Boss Says Unleash It

You better do what you're told.

Pot Does Erase the Brain

This is where that propaganda about pot erasing memory comes into play.

It doesn't make you lose your memory. It makes you forget what you are thinking while you are thinking it. And sometimes, that is a damn good thing.

Legalize pot. NOW!
